 One-Stop Employment Facilities

"For people without disabilities, technology makes things convenient, whereas for people with disabilities, it makes things possible . . .
~Judith Heumann

Our goal at EnableMart is to raise awareness about the benefits of assistive technology (AT) and how such products allow individuals of various abilities to successfully gain independence and join the workforce.  We hope that you find this information educational and useful.  We have years of experience building assistive technology workstations and offering AT training.  With our technical background and AT expertise, we offer the best services available.  EnableMart is ready to be your partner in meeting your One-stops accessibility needs.

The EnableMart All-Access Workstation for One-Stops program is designed to meet the growing need for "total solution packages."  By ensuring universal design and a variety of access solutions and training, these workstations appropriately bring computer access to individuals with special needs and age-related challenges.

Accessibility Requirements

The US Department of Labor (USDOL) provides a comprehensive guide to ensuring accessibility at One-Stop centers.  The EnableMart All-Access Workstation for One-Stops provides all the tools recommended by the USDOL. One-Stop systems need to be proactive in meeting the needs of individuals with disabilities.  It is not enough for One-Stops to simply respond to requests for assistance and accommodations.  It is up to One-Stops to anticipate the needs of individuals with various physical, mental, and sensory disabilities. We will walk you through extensive check lists provided by the USDOL to make sure that your services are accessible to people with disabilities in terms of both physical accessibility and service delivery. All-Access Workstation Components

The All-Access Workstation for One-Stops will help you serve patrons who have challenges with vision, hearing, learning, communication and mobility. There are many software and hardware components to each workstation, so we broke the products down into categories that correlate to the special need each product will assist. Below you will see a picture of an All-Access Workstation and a list of the products included in each workstation. For additional information on each product follow the provided link.

 The Computer

The Computer. At the heart of every All-Access Workstation is an HP computer system. HP is committed to accessibility and has partnered with us to create a truly universal accessible workstation. Call 1-888-640-1999 today to get your HP computer workstation quote.

 Vision

The Screen Magnifier. For One-Stop patrons with low vision it is important that a computer screen magnification program is available. Screen magnification software allows users to have total control over the appearance of their computer screen, including magnification and color preferences.

ZoomText Magnifier & Screenreader is a fully customizable screen magnification program that also allows users to employ the benefit of a screen reader. ZoomText echoes typing, reads information under the cursor, and has customizable voice settings which can be turned on and off. By purchasing the software maintenance agreement, your One-Stop is eligible for two automatic upgrades.

The Screen Reader.  By equipping your One-Stop computers with screen reading software you open doors to patrons who are blind. A screen reader uses a speech synthesizer to read the information on the screen to the operator. Users who are blind are able to navigate the internet, write resumes and search job banks with a screen reader.

Window-Eyes   is a screen reading software program that allows users to navigate all Windows based computer applications, as well as most internet browsers by the sound of voice. By wearing a set of headphones, One-Stop patrons no longer need to see the computer screen. Rather, they can control the entire computer environment through their ability to hear. Window-Eyes works with 47 synthesizers, allows users to switch easily between synthesizers and Braille displays, and employs the use of hot keys for the easiest navigation. A software maintenance agreement is available for this software offering three major upgrades.

The Scanner/Reader.   For many One-stop patrons, who are blind or have low vision, access to hard copy text can be a challenge. Blindness or low-vision does not have to deter individuals from accessing hard copy text such as pamphlets, applications, books and training manuals. A scanner/reader device can be used to ensure that the visual needs of all patrons are met.

The software program known as Cicero  will assist users by allowing them to scan text into the computer, using a flat bed scanner, where it is converted into clearly spoken, synthesized speech or even into Braille. Once scanned, the text can be edited with color and contrast options, reformatted, enlarged, and saved. This software comes complete with the manufacturer promise of lifetime customer support.

The Braille Embosser.   The ability to print patron's documents, job descriptions, directions and training materials in Braille is made possible through the use of a Braille printer. Working in conjunction with Braille translation software, the Braille embosser ensures that the One-stop computer system and documentation is fully functional for Braille literate patrons.

The Romeo AttachĂ©  Braille embosser produces a hard copy of any Braille document from a computer. This device is very efficient, printing up to 15 characters/second in Library of Congress spacing at up to 32 characters/line. The Romeo Attach can be hand fed with single sheet paper or operated using custom made continuous feed paper. There are several accessories that allow users to maximize the printing capabilities of the Romeo, including Braille paper, Brailleable labels, and the custom built sound enclosure. The enclosure can be purchased in either the desktop or full-size models. The sound enclosure ensures complete preservation of the One-Stop environment by muffling the operational noise of the embosser.

The Braille Translator.   For patrons who wish to print in Braille, One-Stop employees who need to communicate in Braille, and to allow all individuals the use of Braille literature, Braille translation software is an essential tool. This software gives a One-Stop the ability to print Braille literature and labels in a simple fashion.

Duxbury Braille Translator   is designed to assist both the sighted and blind in Braille translation regardless of the users ability to read or understand Braille. Duxbury is equipped with interline printing which allows users to view both the Braille and text, optimizing the ability for the sighted to assist blind users, proof read documents, and learn Braille themselves. This software also allows the inclusion of tactile graphic files for mixed text and graphic documents. Complete software maintenance agreement available with option of additional upgrades.

The CCTV.   A video magnifier allows low-vision patrons to magnify when reading and writing. A CCTV takes a picture of a hard copy image and magnifies it on a television or computer screen. A CCTV allows a user hands free magnification, which allows patrons to easily write while using the equipment. This stand alone hardware device is also very beneficial to your patrons who would benefit from magnification and are not fluent with computer applications.

The Clarity Tablemate  with a 20 screen is ideal for One-stop settings. This CCTV employs a unique hands-free auto focus system supplying the user with an exceptionally clear and smooth image. By using the 20 screen, patrons are ensured maximum viewing area. This unit comes complete with a five year manufacturer warranty.

 Learning

The Learning/Literacy Aid.   Bi-modal learning allows many individuals the opportunity to understand and comprehend written text in the method that suits them best.

TextHelp Read & Write Gold   features a combination learning style that allows users to experience both voice and sight assistance. With this software library patrons can scan written text, listen as it is read aloud, and watch as the scanned text is highlighted. Read & Write Gold is compatible with all standard Windows applications and supplies an easy to use toolbar that hovers over open applications. This software also features a built in Spanish translator making it a valuable tool for ESL students and individuals. For individuals seeking to create text based documents, this software offers word prediction, spell checking capabilities, homophone support, a dictionary containing more than 180,000 words, and text-to-speech conversion (as well as speech-to-text conversion).

The Visual Learning Tool.   Learning and literacy can be challenging for many one-stop patrons. Reading comprehension and the organization of ideas can often be enhanced through the use of a visual learning or organizational aid.

Inspiration Software   has been designed specifically for those with learning or literacy needs. Inspiration allows users to visualize thoughts, ideas, and literary concepts in diagrams that can be easily converted into outlines for the use of organization or paper writing. This software includes a talking interface, over 1,300 images, direct connection to word processing applications and the internet, and an easy to use navigational toolbar.

 Hearing & Communication

The Conversation Piece.   Communication between non-signing and deaf, hard of hearing, and speech disabled individuals can be challenging in any setting.

Interpretype also known as ITY, allows face-to-face communication without the need for speech. This device is available as a single unit to be used with a computer monitor, or as a complete package, offering two ITY devices to be used together. Users can easily adjust to the ITY typing device, needing no additional skills to operate it. Interpretype is also proud to offer bi-lingual capabilities. By holding the microphone toward the speaking person, or simply placing the device on a table or other surface, the user is able to experience clear, amplified sound.
