Real-World Picture Words Software
The six software programs help students with limited or no reading skills learn commonly used words heard in everyday life. The 1200 picture words have full-color illustrations and are taught in groups of five to increase comprehension and retention. Simple, easy-to-understand definitions and sentences are read aloud for each word, giving students both general and "real-world" meanings.
Sequence of Software Activities
Each picture word is introduced with its matching illustration. Once the word is read aloud, a series of activities helps students learn to identify, pronounce, define, and use the word.
Students will:
- Learn each word and its definition. Then, hear each word used in a sentence
- Choose the correct picture and word from two choices and then three choices
- Finally, identify each word and its picture from five choices
Real-World Picture Words Activity Cards
Students with limited or no reading skills will learn 200 words with each of the six titles. Each set can also be used alone to teach and reinforce 200 everyday words.
Multiple Uses
Teachers will find many uses for these high-quality activity cards. Cards work beautifully in both one-on-one and small-group settings. The most common use will involve students identifying and pronouncing the name of each object as the cards are displayed. The name of the item is written on the bottom of the card for additional reinforcement, if necessary. Several other suggested uses of the cards are included in the Teacher's Guide.
Each set includes 200 large (4

Real-World Picture Words Curriculums
Each 102-page curriculum includes reproducible student pages, teacher suggestions, and assessment tools. Each of the 200 picture words are illustrated, defined, and used in simple sentences. The words are taught in groups of five to increase both comprehension and retention.
How The Curriculum Works
Words are taught using a two-page teaching guide. One sheet has a reproducible activity page for the students to use for reference. The other sheet is a lesson plan for teaching those five words. The lesson plan includes a systematic way to help students learn what each of the five words means.
After reviewing the word, its definition, and the word used in a sentence, the teacher presents activities detailed in the curriculum. Students answer questions about the words, participate in hands-on activities, and listen to stories in which the words are used in context. The engaging format promotes active learning. Open-ended questions encourage discussion.
