Customization of Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional Options
-
Using J-say Pro 4.0 and earlier, once a person has "trained" Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional to initially recognize the voice through the reading of a specific passage of text, 28 options need to be manually set within the applications Tools/Options Dialog Box in order that it can coexist with J-Say technology. With J-Say Pro 5.0 this is no longer necessary.
New Features in Microsoft Word -
"Go to My File List"
-
The command "Go to My File List" can now be executed from within Microsoft Word to place focus upon the list of files in the Open Dialog Box within the default documents folder.
Navigating Tables -
-
Considerable time and effort has been invested in providing even greater support for table navigation and reading within Microsoft Word and Internet Explorer. In addition to a greater range of abbreviated table movement commands, such as "Beginning of Row" to move focus to the first cell in a row, our new screen-reading commands will read the requested cell without disturbing the location of the cursor.
Bulleted Lists -
-
The command "Bullets On" will commence the creation of a bulleted list and you are advised of this fact.
New Features in Microsoft Outlook
J-Say Contacts -
J-Say and Outlook Contacts are now tightly interwoven, creating some great new features:
- You can open an Email message and use a simple voice command to create an Outlook and J-Say Contact. This is a quick process, and the full name and Email address of the Contact are both stored. This command works even if the message was originally sent to an Email list.
- If a Contact is created manually, a copy of it is stored within Outlook and J-Say simultaneously.
- If Contacts already exist within Outlook, a simple conversion process exists so that they are converted to J-Say Contacts.
Once the contact is created, and you are within a new Microsoft Outlook message, say "Email" followed by the person's name, for example "Email Susan." The message field is completed with the Email address.
The "New Message" Command -
-
If you are working within an application other than Outlook, and you wish to create a new Email message, using the "New Message" command will place focus upon the application and a new message will be created. Microsoft Outlook must be running for this feature to be available.
Email Folder Management -
-
J-Say Pro 5.0 contains the ability for you to go directly to, move messages or copy messages to specific folders. This functionality is available for newly created and existing folders. A simple training process creates the linking mechanism between J-Say and the folder. This training process can easily be achieved by a user with the voice.
"Speak Message"
-
If focus is within the index of messages in a mail folder, the command "Speak Message" reads the details of the current message. If within the body of a message, J-Say Pro will read the entire contents of the message. This command can be spoken when the microphone is "asleep," as has been the case with "Speak Document" for some time.
General Outlook Commands -
A number of new commands have been added to enhance usability within Microsoft Outlook:
- "Unread Messages" displays mail in a folder which has not been read.
- "All Messages" displays all messages in the mail folder.
- "Accounts Menu" allows you to select from multiple Outlook accounts.
- "Set Importance" enables you to set the importance of an outgoing message, such as "High Priority."
New Features within Internet Explorer -
Form Completion -
New support exists for Form Controls on
the Internet as follows:
- If the command "Forms Mode On" Is used, and you are not focused upon a Form Control, you are advised of this.
- The command "Forms Mode Off" will terminate Forms Mode and will return to the Virtual Cursor.
- The command "Check Forms Mode" will verify whether Forms Mode is active or not.
Move Through Links and Dialog Box Controls Faster -
-
The commands "Move Forward X Links" or "Move Forward X Controls," where "X" represents 1 through to 20, can be used to move through Dialog Box controls or Links on a web page much faster. "Move Back X Links" or "Move Back X Controls" can also be spoken.
Miscellaneous Features -
Volume Control -
-
Using your voice, you can now change the volume of the active sound output. Use the command "Volume Down" or "Volume Up" to vary the volume level, or "Full Volume" produces the maximum sound output.
Help Utilities -
-
When in a J-Say Pro Virtual Viewer-based help utility, such as a list of commands specific to a supported application, J-Say Pro 5.0 now uses contextual voices so as to communicate useful information when you use the terms "Next Command" and "Previous Command."
As you proceed through the commands, you will hear the following:
- The word "Command" will be spoken using the JAWS Message Voice;
- The command name;
- The word "Description" will be spoken using the JAWS Message Voice;
- The description of the command.
This use of contextual voices is highly unusual when using information displayed within the Virtual Viewer but allows for a person to more easily distinguish between headings and on-screen data.
Skip Blank Lines -
-
If you are using the "Next Line" command to move through text, and J-Say continually says the word "blank," it may be useful to use the "Skip Blank Lines" command. This moves through the document searching for the next available line of text if there is one.
Cut, Copy, Paste and Delete -
The following commands have been added which also deliver oral
feedback:
- "Cut Item," cuts text to the Windows clipboard.
- "Copy Item," copies text to the windows clipboard.
- "Paste Item," pastes text from the Windows clipboard.
- "Delete Item," deletes text which has been selected.
Announcement of Characters and Words Following Deletion -
-
If a character or word is deleted from a text area, J-Say Pro announces the newly focused character or word.
Changes to "Where am I?" and "What can I Do?"
-
The commands "Where am I?" and "What Can I Do?" have always been used to provide very context sensitive help information relative to a computer location. These utilities have been updated to support changes in our new J-Say commands.
Considerable Expansion of J-Say User Guide -
-
The J-Say User Guide, provided in print, digital format, DAISY and audio summary, has been significantly expanded and is presented in three volumes:
- The first Book consists of the "Installation Guide," which gives you step by step detail on how to install your J-Say Pro 5.0 product.
- The second volume consists of a J-Say tutorial or "Learning Module."
- The tutorial teaches you how to use J-Say with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook and Internet Explorer, together with describing our help utilities, how you can work with non-supported applications and how you can educate the software to learn how you pronounce words and phrases.
- Again, the language used is not technical, delivered using step-by-step instructions. Finally, the third volume comprises the J-Say Pro "Command Summary" which contains all the J-Say commands divided into sections for easy reference.
