WYNN Wizard is the innovative literacy solution designed to enhance success for individuals with reading challenges and writing difficulties. By using the software's bimodal approach – simultaneously highlighting the text as it is spoken – WYNN transforms printed text into understandable information that benefits readers of all ages. WYNN's four color-coded, rotating toolbars create a unique differentiator for this software solution. The simple point-and-click interface is extremely easy to use. The toolbars emphasize file management, visual and auditory presentation of text, traditional study tools, writing aids, and Internet use. New in WYNN 6 - PEARL® camera support. Lightning-fast OCR with the portable PEARL camera. PEARL is a portable camera that can be connected to your USB port and used any time you need to capture pages on the go. PEARL weighs just two pounds, and it provides fast and accurate page recognition. Once you connect the PEARL camera, go to the Advanced menu and change your Device Selection from your flatbed scanner to PEARL, then scan as usual.
- Book Search. Search for Bookshare.org, Gutenberg, and Baen books from within WYNN. You can search by title or author. If searching for books in Bookshare, you can use either your individual or organizational membership to download available books.
- MathML. Support for math and science formulas written using MathML, the math mark-up language adopted as part of the NIMAS standard. Just open any MathML document in WYNN's Web browser, and you can read the formulas written in MathML by right-clicking them.
- Skim Read. Save time while studying by quickly checking out what's in a document before reading it thoroughly. Skim Reading will read just the first sentence of each paragraph, so you can get a quick idea of what's in the document.
- Split View. See Exact View and Text View simultaneously. This provides easy comparison of the original document and the resulting Text View, which allows visual tailoring to assist with visual processing difficulties.
- Two-tone Exact View. Use the same custom colors for Exact View as you do in Text View. If you prefer using a light blue background, this new feature will set your Exact View background to light blue, too.
- Crisp Exact View. Technical advances have made WYNN's Exact View even more crisp and clean, providing an even better user experience.
- Updater built into WYNN. You can update WYNN using the Check for Updates item on the Help menu. If a new update is available, you can install it from within WYNN. This enables you to get bug fixes and minor updates without uninstalling and installing a new version. Visit the Product Update Web page for more information about updating your copy of WYNN.
- New file extension. WYNN 6.0 now uses the WYX file extension for its files. Don't worry - you will still be able to open and use your older WYN files.
- Workflows instead of Scanning Settings. WYNN 6.0 uses workflows to control scanning. Earlier versions of WYNN used Scanning Settings to set individual aspects of how WYNN scanned documents. The items in Workflow Settings replace and enhance the capabilities of Scanning Settings. A workflow is a group of pre-defined settings that control how images are acquired and processed. Workflows can acquire single or multiple pages, acquire simple or complex documents with tables and other formatting, or acquire pages manually or automatically. You can also create your own workflow to meet your needs. For more information about workflows, refer to WYNN's Help system.
- Acquire instead of Scan. Since WYNN 6.0 includes support for the PEARL camera, WYNN does more than scanning. So the Scan menu and items have changed to be the new Acquire menu.
- Settings menu items moved. The Settings menus have moved around a bit. Some items are in different places.
- Find Mark-ups is now part of Go To. We expanded the functionality of Go To so that it now includes Find Mark-ups.
- Zooming enhancements. You can now zoom the Exact View by smaller increments. To support this, we added keyboard shortcuts. Press the CTRL and PLUS keys together to make Exact View bigger. Press the CTRL and MINUS keys together to make Exact View smaller.
- Launchables have moved. Launchables are a way to send your WYNN document to your favorite word processor. Older versions of WYNN set up launchables during installation. WYNN 6.0 manages installation and use of launchables in the Advanced menu.
- Scanning progress messages. WYNN 6.0 displays scanning/acquisition progress messages in the Status Bar at the bottom of WYNN, instead of using a pop-up dialog in the middle of the screen.
- Camera View. Only available with PEARL camera. Camera View allows you to see a live view of what is under the PEARL camera. This can help when positioning the page to make sure the whole page will be acquired.
- Photocopy. Only available with PEARL camera. You can acquire a document or image using PEARL, and immediately send a copy of it to your printer. Photocopy is on the Launch menu.
- Image View settings. This is a new function that controls aspects of Camera View and Exact View.
- Change Language in Advanced menu. The Change Language item in the Advanced menu allows you to change the localization of WYNN after installation. If you installed the US English version, this item will change the US English installation to use UK English for menus, dialogs, and all other text. If you have installed UK English localization, this item allows you to change to the US localized version.
- Image Output Type. This item, in General Settings, sets the format for any image that you acquire using the Acquire Image Only workflow. The default is JPEG, but you can change it to several TIFF format variations and other formats such as BMP.
- Use SHIFT keys to rewind or fast forward while reading. You can press the LEFT SHIFT to rewind during reading, and press the RIGHT SHIFT to fast forward.
- Menu Voice and Emphasis Voice. We have added a Menu voice and an Emphasis Voice, found in Speech Settings. The menu voice controls speech of menus and dialog boxes. The emphasis voice controls speech of text that is bold, italic, or underlined. You can set these voices to different settings so you can tell these types of speech apart. If you set these voices differently, be sure the Apply Settings to All Voices item is not checked.
