Build expressive language and augmentative communication skills

These programs give children with language impairments the opportunity to communicate. The Talking Series is designed to build expressive language and augmentative communication skills. They complement First Words, First Words II, and First Verbs by developing the active use of the nouns and verbs trained in those programs. Press a word, phrase, or picture on the monitor screen to make your computer speak. Corresponding pictures of nouns or verbs appear on the monitor screen.

Suggested for:
  • Children and adults with language-learning disabilities, developmental disabilities, physical impairments, and autism.
  • Candidates for augmentative communication systems.

Benefits:
  • Promotes expressive use of words and phrases
  • Develops conversational abilities
  • Encourages collaborative learning and communication between peers
  • Introduces augmentative communication skills

Four activities build communication skills:
  • Interactive Communication -This activity offers two options:
    • Single Touch Activation -The computer says each word as it is selected
    • Sequenced Activation -The computer speaks only after a phrase or sentence has been completed.
  • In both cases, the computer adds articles and verb inflections so that your child only hears grammatically correct phrases.
  • Word Matching -A picture appears on the monitor and the user is asked to find one that matches it.
  • Word Identification -The computer says a word and the user must find the corresponding picture and/or text.
  • Exploration - Users choose nouns or verbs on the screen and the computer names them. The "show" button can be turned on to introduce sequencing.
